Good bye Aberdeen .... Hello London

Sitting in the Aberdeen International Airport I opened my meditation reading for the day and the opening quote said “Embrace the present moment as an ever-flowing source of holiness.” ( Jean Pierre de Cassade)

The reflection was on being present in the moment and finding the presence of God there.  Considering my treks of the last few days and the beauty that was present all around it was an easy task to be in the present.  But what happens when one returns to their regular life?  Home, work, commitments, seeing the same scenery.  I think it becomes so ingrained in us that we forget to be wowed by it and sometimes fail to be present.  Our minds have rushed off to what is next on the schedule, what needs to be done, how to get to the next place and we forget about the now.  Taking for granted all of the beauty and the joy that is around us.  A timely reminder perhaps.

So with London on the horizon with lots of new experiences waiting to unfold and be enjoyed this holiday is also a good reminder to enjoy the present.  Not merely the new experiences but also the ordinary moments of life that fill it with so much colour and opportunity.  Holy moments don’t just happen in the new experiences but they occur in the ordinary moments of each day.  The present is all we have so let’s make the most of it!
